Toxicity of Zeolite Containing Detergents

چکیده
Introduction – Eutrophication is a serious problem This article compares the toxic effects of detergents of different types on aquatic organisms and is intended to outline the research comparing the toxicity of phosphate detergents with the toxicity of zeolite ones. Particular attention is given to the comparison of zeolitic and phosphate detergents. Phosphates are an important component in synthetic detergents. But, they cause problems in surface waters. When excess phosphate is released into surface waters, the result is overfertilization (=eutrophication), leading to an increased algal growth. The increased algal growth in stagnant surface water leads to oxygen depletion in lower water layers, which in turn causes general reduction of overall water quality. The result may be loss of potential drinking water sources and, in some cases, damage to fishing interests. With eutrophication some hygienic problems arise as well (allergies, cyanotoxins etc.). For this reason, the use of sodium triphosphate in detergents has come under increasingly critical scrutiny. Some phosphate studies have led to the conclusion, however, that apart from some local variation, ca. 60% of the phosphate encountered in municipal sewage originates from detergents or cleaners. متن کاملPrevention of acute ammonia toxicity in beluga, Huso huso, using natural zeolite
This study was accomplished to examine the efficiency of natural zeolite in preventing acute toxicity of total ammonia to Huso huso. The study was performed using Water Static Method in 96 hours. Fish averaged 46 ? 5 g in weight and 22 ? 4 cm in total length were exposed to four different concentrations (15, 30, 50, 75 mgL-1) of ammonia and a group was considered as control. Under stable condit...
متن کاملUse of zeolite for removing ammonia and ammonia-caused toxicity in marine toxicity identification evaluations.
Ammonia occurs in marine waters including effluents, receiving waters, and sediment interstitial waters. At sufficiently high concentrations, ammonia can be toxic to aquatic species. Toxicity identification evaluation (TIE) methods provide researchers with tools for identifying aquatic toxicants. For identifying ammonia toxicity, there are several possible methods including pH alteration and vo...

In this research, zeolite A was synthesized from waste porcelain and CdS nano-particles were doped in zeolite framework by a precipitation after an ion exchanging process. All raw and modified samples were characterized by FT-IR, XRD and SEM methods. Primary experiments showed that the good efficiency of loaded nano CdS onto the zeolite A for photodecomposition of dimethyldisulfide (DMDS) under...
